To address the regional workforce shortage, DVIRC has been focusing on implementing programs to increase the awareness of manufacturing jobs and career opportunities and, increasing the number of people in the talent pipeline.
Here is an update for May 2023 on some of the initiatives that we are working on.
DVIRC Dream Team
The DVIRC Dream Team has been hard at work spreading the word about the rewarding career possibilities in the manufacturing sector. To date, our Dream Team Ambassadors have presented seven times within 4 schools throughout Philadelphia, Bucks, and Montgomery counties. They met approximately 230 students already and we are just getting started. We anticipate making 13 presentations within 8 schools by the time the school year is over.
Pictured here, 3 of our Dream Team Ambassadors presented to students at First Philadelphia Preparatory Charter School and shared their experience with the rewarding STEM careers available in manufacturing. Shout out to our amazing ambassadors!
- Anais Allen, Plant Support Specialist at Colorcon
- Tyler Smith, Systems Control Engineer at Greene, Tweed & Co.
- Cullen Walsh, Automation Engineer at Greene, Tweed & Co.
What’s So Cool About Manufacturing?
The 2023 What’s So Cool About Manufacturing contest concluded on May 15th with Upper Moreland Middle School attending the Statewide Awards Ceremony. Upper Moreland did a great job of presenting their idea of What’s So Cool About Manufacturing with Packaging Progressions.
We are now gearing up for next year’s What’s So Cool About Manufacturing video contest. This contest is a great way to introduce middle school-age students to the exciting careers available in the manufacturing sector. Know of any middle schools that would benefit from this program? Contact our Director of Workforce Engagement, Hannah McGarry. We would love to talk to them about the benefits of this program!
